The National Danish Film School, in collaboration with the production companies Nimbus Film and Monolit Film, will strengthen awareness of and the inclusion of data on audiences and target groups in the development process of Danish filmmakers. The project examines, among other things, how to work with knowledge from data, how to collect both qualitative and quantitative data and what data is already available.
Started on January 1, 2022
Expected to be completed by December 31, 2022
Challenge
Knowledge based on data is increasingly influencing the decision-making processes in the film and television industry. Everyone knows that the major streaming services measure users’ habits and use them in the development of new productions.
In this way, knowledge has become a power factor, and filmmakers need to strengthen their position with more knowledge. They therefore need to develop an understanding of how to work with knowledge from data, how to collect both qualitative and quantitative data and what data is already available.
Solution
In collaboration with the production companies Nimbus Film and Monolit Film as well as experts from the University of Copenhagen, the Danish Film School is launching an innovation project which will strengthen the creation of this knowledge. The project works with three questions:
– What relevant and accessible digital data already exists?
– How do you create data yourself?
– How can data be brought into play in an artistic creation process?
Result
The knowledge that comes out of the project will be used by Danish filmmakers and the results will be incorporated into the Danish Film School’s courses. In addition, the project is rounded off with a seminar for an invited audience.
